ouch

it was nicholas's birthday! and i gave him superb presents-- paul's boutique, which i actually gave a week early, because i am like an impatient child when it comes to giving or getting presents; life sucks, which i completely forgot that he had already read but does in fact love; and a first press copy of blonde on blonde, which even his parents were impressed with. we had sushi for dinner, of course, because that's our favorite kind of culinary celebration, and yesterday we had a party at kara's. the house was decorated, and nate DJ'd. joe called from london! kat and kahala came, with a bottle of maker's, appropriately, for nicholas. matteo and i re-enacted the photo of him asleep on the stairs, quite successfully i think. nicholas and i had udon for dinner before the party, and afterward had ramen in our kitchen at 5am. i slept for the wrong twelve hours today, and my head feels as if it's going to explode. we don't have any coffee so we walked to sweet pea, the all vegan bakery/coffee shop around the corner, the really slow coffee shop that has the potential to be amazing but always somehow disappoints, and i got macaroni salad and a bagel with strawberry shmear, and was in fact disappointed upon removal of the bagel from the bag at home to find it was an everything bagel, or something, and it stunk of onion, and that, combined with the aching of my head and the entire of my body, made me think my day was ruined. but it wasn't. i made toast and lay on the couch with nicholas while we watched an awful(ly bad/good) will smith movie until he had to leave for work, and i am still in the same spot, head and body still aching, preparing myself for the bike ride to kara's to get the car.

oh! yesterday morning i went to floyd's to drink coffee and read some while nicholas slept in, and: the person to my right was reading the same 898-page book as i (me- page 12, he- page 215), and one of the people to my left went to the party last night. after i decided that he was indeed the guy from coffee, when i was drunk i walked over to him and said "hey, were you at floyd's this morning? i was sitting next to you" and he said "book or computer?" or "reading or internetting?" and i said "book!!" or "reading!!" and was so proud of myself, but upon reflection feel a bit creepy. oops.
